STATION TOUR The Dreadnaught station houses Ladder 1, Special Hazards & Marine 1 - it is also the Fire Department Headquarters/Board of Engineers/Administration Offices, as well as the location for the Engine 4 Fog Squad. Scroll to the bottom for a pictoral station tour! The main part of the station was built right around 1900, after a fire destroyed the original Dreadnaught fire station, sitting on the same site. (I will try and get some of the older pictures of the stations on the site, so you can see some of the changes over time.) The addition on the Church Street side was built in the 1960's to house the new ladder truck at the time, a 1961 Ward LaFrance snorkel. The station has been well-maintained over the years, and has served the members and the town well. We have renovated and restored many spaces in recent years. The first floor of the station has 2 apparatus bays on the High Street side for Special Hazards & Engine 4, and 1 large apparatus bay on the Church Street side for Ladder 1 & Marine 1, and the air cascade system. Also on the first floor you'll find the card room & entry/stairway (renovated in the 1990's), and the recently remodeled kitchen. The second floor of the station includes our meeting room
& ante room (renovated in 2002) and our day room (renovated
in 2001). Also on the second floor is the Fire Department Headquarters/Board
of Engineers/ Our basement includes a workout/weight room area, showers, storage and, of course, mechanical to keep the station heated. One space that we do not have is a bunk room, and that is because we are volunteer and not typically staffed at the station at night - we respond either to the station or directly to the scene. We do, however, have occasional staffing at night, during details for severe weather for instance, and the meeting and day rooms then serve as bunk rooms quite well. (Note from webmaster: I will try to update and add to these pictures as often as I can! Some of the pictures don't do the spaces justice - still in the hunt for a nice wide-angle lense, and next time, I will open up the blinds before I take the pictures!) Outside Pictures:
